What We Stand For
We believe government should work for people. Not for parties, not for donors, not for the algorithm. For actual human beings trying to live their lives. Somewhere along the way, Americans stopped trusting the institutions built to serve them. That trust has to be earned back — not with slogans, but with competence, transparency, and results.
We believe in strength and empathy — together. You don't have to choose. A country can be strong without being cruel. Leadership means making hard decisions, but never forgetting who those decisions land on. Toughness without compassion is just cruelty with a flag on it.
We believe leaders should hold themselves to a higher standard — and we believe they'll sometimes fall short. Because leaders are human. They'll make mistakes, misjudge situations, get things wrong. That's not the failure. The failure is pretending otherwise — the scripted non-apology, the doubling down, the refusal to ever say "I was wrong." We want leaders honest enough to be imperfect in public.
A house divided against itself cannot stand. Lincoln said it. Washington warned against it. Every generation of Americans has been told that faction and division will destroy what unity built — and every generation has had to learn it the hard way. We are not a party that will pit neighbor against neighbor, red against blue, rural against urban. We will not win by teaching you to fear your neighbors. The Pragmatist Party exists to unite — not because unity is easy or comfortable, but because a country that tears itself apart over politics has already lost, no matter who wins the election.
We believe nobody has all the answers. Not the left. Not the right. Not us. The moment any movement decides it's figured everything out is the moment it stops being useful. We'd rather be honest and uncertain than confident and wrong.
We believe policy should be judged by what it does, not what it promises. Good intentions don't pay rent. A program that sounds compassionate but doesn't actually help people isn't compassionate — it's theater. Show us the outcomes.
We believe in each other. Not in some naive, hand-holding way. In the practical sense that most people — whatever they believe, however they vote — are trying to do right by their families and communities. We've been trained to see people who vote differently as enemies. They're not. They're neighbors who read different news.
Our Mission
The Pragmatists exist because most Americans are tired of being told every question has exactly two answers. Real problems — healthcare costs, housing shortages, immigration, climate policy — don't have neat partisan answers. They require nuance, evidence, empathy for the people affected, and the willingness to adopt what works regardless of who proposed it.
We challenge conventional political thinking by presenting real policy issues and asking: what actually solves this? Not what scores points. Not what fits a bumper sticker. What works.

What We Believe
Intellectual Honesty
We acknowledge when people we disagree with have a point. We admit when our preferred solution has downsides. Honesty beats comfort.
Empirical Thinking
Policies should be evaluated by their outcomes, not their intentions. If a program doesn't work, it doesn't matter how good it sounds.
Empathy as Policy Foundation
Evidence tells us what works. Empathy tells us who it's for. Every policy we evaluate starts with the people it affects — their struggles, their constraints, their dignity. Data without compassion is just technocracy.
Good Faith Engagement
We assume people who disagree with us are trying to solve the same problems differently — not that they're evil or stupid.
Systemic Thinking
Simple problems have simple solutions. Policy problems aren't simple. We embrace complexity and second-order effects.
Action Orientation
Analysis without action is just commentary. We push for implementable solutions that can survive contact with reality.
What We're Not
We're not centrists by default — sometimes the evidence points to bold action, not splitting the difference.
We're not just another political party — we're a thinking framework backed by a party that can act on it.
We're not anti-ideology — we're against letting ideology override evidence.
We're not interested in false balance — pretending every position is equally supported by the evidence isn't fairness, it's abdication.
Leadership
The Pragmatists were founded on July 4, 2026 by Chris Borgia, who chairs the Pragmatist National Committee.
